Lavender for Wounds

A few weeks ago, my handsome man burst his skin open by hitting his hand with a hammer (this happens a couple times a year, but this one was a doozy). It looked awful.

After cleaning it, carefully, with peroxide, I poured about 4 drops of Lavender oil onto his thumb.

I followed this up with what I thought was Neosporin (more on that later...) and a bandage.

I used Lavender oil because of its infection fighting capabilities. It is also anti-inflammatory, so that helps as well.

I guess it worked better than I thought, because when we sent follow up pictures to our Doctor, she was happy with his healing progress.

And you know what I said about the Neosporin? It was actually hydrocortisone cream. I guess I was so focused on helping, I didn't read all my labels! Whoops!

Anyway, his thumb didn't itch, and the lavender formed enough of a barrier that there weren't any problems. Now his thumb looks great, and I do credit the repeated application of this oil for that.

How are you using this popular oil?

About Lavender: It is antiseptic and antifungal, so it works well in situations like this. It has also been used for itching...Ha!
